What we call a disaster is an event or a series of events of such magnitude that they affect gravely the basic structure and thus the normal functioning of the affected society, community or territory. Disasters render those social units unable to deal with the resulting damage themselves without help from outside. Disasters can be classified according to their origin : natural disasters, technological disasters and sanitary disasters. In our project, we concentrate on natural disasters. Natural disasters are not directly attributable to man and of the three categories cause the greatest losses in the world. Due to its geographical situation, our country is subjected to a lot of natural disasters, especially of those of hydrometeorological origins (hurricanes, tropical tempests and floods). The cyclone season in Cuba starts at June, 1 and ends December, 1, so half of the year, the population is subjected to the great dangers to both their lifes and material goods a natural disaster of this scope can cause. There is an immense need for an improved way of communicating hao to deal with these natural phenomena. While addressing adults is comparetively easy since they can be talked to in a matter-of-fact way, informing children without scaring them is more difficult. Yet the need to prepare the children and brief them about the necessary means to be taken is huge, not least because children will form the society of tomorrow and the psychological aspect of experiencing the power each of the children has to make a difference can help achieve major changes towards a better future.
